Winners of Noor scientific student films announced

Winners of scientific student films from the Mustafa Prize's Noor Competition were announced.

Winners of scientific student films from the Mustafa Prize's Noor Competition have been announced.

The winners are scheduled to be honored during an event in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on September 1, coinciding with the anniversary of Eid al-Adha, the second most important holy festival in the Muslim calendar.

Over 5,000 students had participated in this year’s event. Festival goers reviewed some 2,000 short films with various scientific themes.

Student groups took part in the event by sending 60-second films of their scientific experiments in all fields of science, including physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and astronomy.

The Noor Student Competition launched in early December last year with aims of identifying students’ strengths and talents, fostering them and developing new perspectives in student communities as well as promoting scientific cooperation between educational centers.

The distinctive feature of this year’s event compared to the previous year was participation of schools from regional countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The top 100 selected works will be broadcast on a weekly TV program. Other prizes include granting laboratory and science equipment to the selected schools and research centers.

The Noor Competition is organized by officials of The Mustafa Prize – a science and technology award granted to top researchers and scientists from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states biennially.
